We have the pleasure to present this interview with the SuperLeague European Champion Alviar Lima. Lima became the first ever title holder by defeating Fadi Merza on points at the SuperLeague Elimination 2006.
Congratulations to your victory over Fadi Merza and gaining the SuperLeague European Title. Your winning streak is just getting longer and longer. It must be a wonderful feeling.
Thanks, it feels wonderful. All the hard work is finally paying off.
What are your thoughts about the fight?
We knew that Fadi is a very tough fighter, so my coach Dennis Krauweel told me to not only go for the head but that I had to work the body a lot to win this fight. The plan worked, but it was a tough fight for me.
How do you rate this win if you compare to last year when you won the tournament in Turkey?
Of course this was a big win for me but winning the tournament last year was really important. I had been around for a long time fighting some of the best but still a lot of people did not know who I was. Winning the tournament put me right in the spotlight.
Yes, now you are one of the hottest names at the moment. You have been fighting a lot lately, how many fights did you have last year?
I think I fought like twelve fights last year.
That’s a lot of fights and it was all against top names. Do you find it hard to stay motivation when fighting as frequently as you do?
Actually it helps me to fight regularly. That way I always have a good base to start from because I’m almost in preparation. But of course some times they schedule can be a little bit rough.
Tell us about your next fight?
My next fight is on the 6th of June in Holland and I will be fighting the thai fighter Panjunsuk.
Panjunsuk is a very good fighter one of the best thais at the moment. What are your thoughts on this?
It’s true. Panjunsuk is a very strong fighter and many people consider him to be the favourite. But I believe in myself and I’m going to make this fight a war.
I believe your forward going fighting style will make a great fight. Do you train and prepare in some special way for this particular fight?
Yea, this time we have a thai trainer to the gym who is helping me to prepare for this fight. I believe it’s important to do this because the thais have a different way of fighting then we are used to in Europe.
So after the fight with Panjunsuk is it time for some rest ore do you have some other fight lined up?
After this fight I will take a week of. But first I will help my team mate Albert Kraus with his preparations for the K-1 Max finals.
Sounds nice, you have really earned some rest. Are you just going to relax and take it easy ore do you have any special plans you would like to share with us?
I’m travelling a lot and have a very busy schedule so my plan is just to take it easy and spend more time with my girlfriend.
Thank you for doing this interview and good luck in your fight against Panjunsuk.
My pleasure. Thanks, and greetings to all fighting fans. Thank you for your support.
